What is Child Centred Play Therapy?
Children often find it challenging to express their emotions or experiences through words, especially when facing difficult situations. Child centred play therapy provides a safe and natural way for them to communicate and make sense of their feelings. As a qualified therapist I use play as a means for children to explore their inner world, share what’s troubling them, and begin to heal. In this process, play becomes their language, and toys become their words.Who can benefit?
Children with a wide range of experiences and challenges can benefit from CCPT. This includes children with developmental, emotional, behavioural, or social difficulties, as well as those adjusting to life changes such as separation, loss, or trauma. Through the therapeutic process, children begin to make sense of their world, find emotional balance, and develop new ways of coping. Will my child benefit?
The research supports the effectiveness of play therapy with children experiencing a wide variety of social, emotional, behavioural and learning challenges including: Trauma, Grief, Loss, Social Issues, Relationship Issues, Anxiety, Family Separation, ASD, ADHD, Chronic Illness, Domestic Violence, Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse. What can my child learn or achieve?
As children engage in play therapy, they gradually learn to take responsibility for their behaviour and choices, build problem-solving skills, and express their emotions in healthy ways. They also begin to develop empathy, improve relationships, and strengthen their sense of self-worth. In essence, CCPT empowers children to grow, heal, and thrive from the inside out, using the language they know best- play.
